Water - On an Empty Stomach

Water - On an Empty Stomach

One of the great challenges each of us face in life is doing the things we already know we should be doing.  Go to bed early, arise early, sleep 8 hours per night. Exercising, drinking 8 cups of water per day, say your prayers, read your scriptures, listen to good music, etc.  Sometimes we need a reminder.  Here is one today with a bit more information that may provide some motivation.

Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, author of
Your Body's Many Cries for Water states,
"You're not sick; you're thirsty. Don't treat thirst with medication."

Dr.
Batmanghelidj (sometimes referred to Dr. Batman) discovered that becoming dehydrated is often the precursor to pain and disease. He describes the role of histamine in the body when we experience pain. It is found that when an area of the body becomes dehydrated, histamine in that area increases resulting in pain. Most strong pain medications are antihistamines. When the body becomes fully hydrated, histamine levels subside and pain is greatly reduced or eliminated. It would appear that there is a strong connection between the production of pain-causing histamine in the body and being dehydrated.
Too often, medications, drugs, herbs, essential oils, etc. are prescribed or recommended when perhaps drinking enough water may be what the body really needs. So much of my practice focuses on toxicity within the body. If the body is unable to rid itself of toxins from the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water (or heaven forbid - soda) that we drink and even the normal processes of digestion and metabolism, then these toxins often referred to as "free-radicals" can disrupt health physiologic functions in the body. It turns out that water is the vital and common element that assists the body in ridding itself of toxic residue. Toxicity is expelled from the body through the moisture from the lungs as we exhale, from the kidneys and bowels as we eliminate and through the skin as we sweat.
If we do not drink enough water, then our bodies prefer to hang on to as much of this vital liquid as it can to sustain life as best it can. It is said, the only problem with pain is that it hurts. However, pain MUST be viewed for what it is. The body trying to communicate to you that something is wrong. Pain is a pretty good attention getter. What we are suggesting here - over simply put - is that if pain is associated with a histamine response which is associated with dehydration, then perhaps a glass of water may make better sense than a pain-reliever.
Water treatment has been noted to help a wide variety of health conditions according to both Ayurvedic (from India) and Japanese traditions. Reports of improvement from conditions as heartburn, ulcers, gastritis, asthma, angina, hypertension, migraine headaches, body ache, arthritis pain, back pain, colitis pain, chronic constipation, hiatal hernia, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, high cholesterol, morning sickness, overweight problems and obesity, bronchitis, asthma, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, diarrhea, piles/hemorrhoids, diabetes, all eye diseases, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.

Okay, okay, this list is clearly over the top and should invoke a "yeah right" response. However, according to Dr. Batmanghelidj dehydration can be a significant factor in these conditions and can be helped, often dramatically with water.

Here is a typical protocol that is recommended:
1. Drink about 3-4 glasses (24 to 32 oz) of water once you wake up in the morning on an empty stomach. The water should be warm or at least room temperature - not cold. Cold water slows down digestion.
2. Brush your teeth after you drink your water. If you have constipation or digestion issues, drinking water before brushing will help. The micro-organisms in the mouth when you wake up, will get washed into the stomach and help regularize bowel movements.
3. Don't drink/eat anything else for at least 45 minutes after drinking the water.
4. If you cannot drink 3-4 glasses of water at a stretch, you can start with a smaller quantity. You can then drink the remaining amount of water after a gap.
If you have kidney problems or severe health issues, ask your doctor before starting on any new health procedure. Getting used to this kind of therapy may take sometime, but don't give up.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases (according to a Japanese report):
  • High Blood Pressure (30 days)
  • Gastric - Digestion Issues (10 days)
  • Diabetes (30 days)
  • Constipation (10 days)
  • Cancer (180 days)
  • Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards - daily.

This treatment method has no negative side effects, however at the commencement of treatment if you are not accustom to drinking so much, you may have to urinate more than normal. It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.

Another thing you may want to consider is increasing the amount of sea salt you consume. Ideally about ½ teaspoon each day. Many sources have suggested about 1/8 teaspoon directly on the tongue (so that you taste it) and then wash it down with water. Sea salt has so many healthy benefits - but that is a discussion for another time.

Water is the basis of all life and that includes your body. Your muscles that move your body are 75% water; your blood that transport nutrients is 82% water; your lungs that provide your oxygen are 90% water; your brain that is the control center of your body is 76% water; even your bones are 25% water.

Our health is truly dependent on the quality and quantity of the water we drink. I always recommend water that has been filtered, at least to remove the chlorine. Also avoid plastic containers, as these bottles are made from chemicals that disrupt proper hormone function. Invest in some glass water bottles or drink from canning jars.

Dr. B's pioneering work shows that Unintentional Chronic Dehydration (UCD) contributes to and even produces pain and many degenerative diseases that can be prevented and treated by increasing water intake on a regular basis.

If you are committed to a healthy lifestyle, make drinking enough natural water a habit in your life. It won't take long for you to feel the benefit.

Blessings,

Dr. Kyle Christensen

Are You Listening?

Are You Listening?
Sometimes when I write, the concepts and thoughts flow pretty freely. Other times (like now), I have ideas I'd like to share and they strain and fall with difficulty from the keyboard. After two weeks of write and re-write, I have finally decided I need to just blurt it out and hopefully not offend too many of you.

Here is what I have observed in my 30 years as a doctor. The people who get well, I mean that really truly get well and overcome their ailments experience transformation. Most of you dabble. By this I mean, we sit down together and we negotiate. "Okay, I am willing to do A and D, but C, B and F are too hard, or inconvenient, or doesn't taste good, or, or, or. Often people come seeking answers, but they have to be the soft convenient answers that will not compromise life's comforts or rock their boat.

My practice is unique in that as a licensed chiropractor, I see much more than the stiff neck or aching back. I visit with people who are truly sick. Suffering with cancers, with hormones that are totally whacked out, with Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Lyme's or whatever else they decide to call it this year (it's really a fundamental breakdown of the immune system). I see people who are severely malnourished (although they tip the scale into the ranges of obesity). I see those whose bodies yearn for extraterrestrial environments - because they are allergic to everything on this planet.

I routinely tell my patients to not believe what I tell them. Don't take my word for it. Because if that is all you do, you may not have the traction or motivation to pull through to the end. What I urge people to do, is get a testimony or a spiritual confirmation of what they should be doing. When you have an experience, an awakening if you will, as to what you should be doing, something happens inside. Rather than following directives from an outside source or influence, you can begin to find internal and inspired direction. But my recommendations usually include studying, reading and a lot of introspection.  I urge you "to become an expert" for your condition learning it from all angles.  The path to health cannot be passive - It ain't easy.

Many of you may be saying at this point (because I hear it ALL the time), "But I really don't know what to do" or "I'm not spiritual and I've prayed and don't get these impressions or confirmations that you are talking about." What many of you may be experiencing when you express these sentiments is a fear or lack of willingness to trust the more quiet or subtle impressions you receive. I admit it would be much easier if an angel came down from heaven with a sword drawn to give us forceful and sure direction. But what usually happens is you receive an impression and then immediately go to work discounting it, rationalizing against why you can't do it, justifying your current behavior and coming up with every excuse why these quiet impressions (I believe from God) won't work or don't apply to you. We all do it. When this inner argument begins, it is time to jerk the choke chain and realize who you are arguing against. How many of us routinely are told by the spirit - you really shouldn't be eating or drinking that - you should go to bed, etc.

I believe that because God loves us, He is willing and able to reveal the truth of all things to us, as quickly as we are willing to follow and obey. But there is caveat. When the truth is opened and confirmed to your heart and mind, God expects you to follow and obey. It is as if, you have received a personal commandment. And because God loves you, and is well aware of our weakness and frailties, He cautiously withholds revelatory direction unless our desire, intent and motivation is such that we can handle the additional responsibility that is given us. Let me give you an example. For me, and I am just talking only for me - Kyle -, drinking commercially produced soda pop is a sin. Why? Because it has been revealed to me that not only is it harmful to the body, mind and spirit, but that the purchase of this liquid candy supports evil purposes designed to addict and enslave those who are foolish enough to partake of it. Nearly everyone will readily agree that soda pop is not healthy. But only a few of us truly understand (on a deeper spiritual level) the insidious Babylonian (as contrasted to Zion) nature of these beverages that slide down the gullet of so many in the world today. Again, this is for me, and me alone (unless of course, you have received the same witness).

My experience has shown me, that getting physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually healthy requires TRANSFORMATION. It is like gaining a witness or testimony of Jesus Christ. Being a good Christian requires more than following all of the do's and don'ts. As children, many of us were taught the ropes of living a Christian life. "Do unto others . . ., Keep the Ten Commandments, Be charitable, etc." We were taught this by loving parents in hope that someday we would obtain a personal witness for ourselves that these principles and concepts are right and true.

However, in the world today, the words of prophets and truth have are constantly being spun or twisted.  And like the people of ancient times, too many seek only comfortable solutions to their problems.  In our drug-infested culture, many desire a simple pill or quick fix to remedy whatever ails them.

Jeffrey Holland describes this trend in the following quote: Sadly enough, my young friends, it is a characteristic of our age that if people want any gods at all, they want them to be gods who do not demand much, comfortable gods, smooth gods who not only don't rock the boat but don't even row it, gods who pat us on the head, make us giggle, then tell us to run along and pick marigolds.
Talk about man creating God in his own image! Sometimes-and this seems the greatest irony of all-these folks invoke the name of Jesus as one who was this kind of "comfortable" God.
Really? He who said not only should we not break commandments, but we should not even think about breaking them. And if we do think about breaking them, we have already broken them in our heart. Does that sound like "comfortable" doctrine, easy on the ear and popular down at the village love-in?

Too often the recipes for peace and enlightenment are too easy.
Henry Fairlie, in his book, The Seven Deadly Sins Today (1978) further elaborates:  Twenty minutes of transcendental meditation, or of mindlessly chanting the name of god, or of simply standing on one's head, and the thing is done; One is again made whole, at peace with the world, with one's fellows, and of course with oneself. Universal harmony has never been offered so cheaply before.

Just as Christ taught a gospel that requires discipline devoid of shortcuts or quick fixes, so too does the gaining and maintaining of good health. It is more than taking the right pill or potion.

What many of my patients do not (or are not willing) to understand is that the way to health (at least to a greater degree than you experience now) is available. I may be a good resource for many, but I definitely do not have all of the answers - particularly for you. I witness to you, that the answers, the path and your road to recovery is there for you. But it will only be revealed as you are willing to listen, obey and allow yourself to be transformed by the Spirit, which we call Holy. For most of us, answers will only come as a trickle. Remember, God does not want to hold us accountable for more than we are able or willing to handle. Answers typically will not come, until you are sincerely willing to listen and follow. His first impression to you may be something as simple as "Go to bed earlier" or "You need to start walking". It will be different for each of us. As you listen and obey, you will become more trustworthy in Gods eyes and you will be given more.

Do not expect like Saul (who became Paul) an all-at-once transformational experience - Although I have seen them. "Becoming" is often a painstakingly slow progression. But as you shift your recovery to that of a spiritual nature rather than a checklist of supplements to take or a diet to follow, you will begin to change, you will begin to transform, you will become a new creature - Someone who listens to and obeys the inner voice or spirit rather than popular opinion (even if that opinion is paid for in a doctors office). And here is the miracle in all of this. You will gain strength and motivation and power as you listen to and obey your conscience (the voice of God in you). Grab hold of the truth as it is revealed to you and you will be given power and strength from on high to do it. I am convinced that sheer will power and determination are not enough for us to traverse through the valleys and shadows of depression, anxiety and laziness. It is only when we tap into the power of God and take the first steps in following inspired directives (that begin with the simplest of steps), that we will be entrusted with more.

My prayer for each of us is that we will somehow muster the desire, courage and power to realize it is all about God and Spirit and Happiness. You cannot enjoy happiness "doing it your own way" - unless of course, your way becomes God's way. It is not easy. In fact, it is hard. The high road is, by definition, uphill. But the vistas are breathtaking and spectacular. The way is not popular. But it is sure. You will face opposition but if you listen and follow, you will be doing the right thing. You cannot do it alone, but with God it is possible.

Blessings,

Dr. Kyle Christensen

Hard Doctrines of Christ

Hard Doctrines of Christ

It seems that there are many Christians in the world today that have taken up the belief that Jesus patient and tolerant and accepts each of us as we are without expectations on our part to change, repent or grow into something more. I agree that Jesus the Christ is patient, loving, forgiving and compassionate. However, discipleship also requires, as the word implies, discipline. The upward path of the Christian is fraught with obstacles, hardships and disability. It is the path of continual introspection, evaluation and change. Stricken from the vocabulary should be phrases such as "I can't change, This is just the way I am."

The Savior's call to repent is an invitation to change your heart. True repentance occurs only when your heart is changed or transformed. Behavior, of course, will follow. We are invited to be renewed, redeemed and restored. But change is hard and usually requires effort and strength beyond our capabilities. Fortunately, the admonition to become a "new creature" in Christ brings with it spiritual guidance and support that can make all the difference. As we take the Holy Spirit as our guide (most often felt as promptings, thoughts and ideas from your conscience), we are led on the path of service and sacrifice. (Understand that a sacrifice is giving up something of lesser value for something much greater.)

Jesus was approached by a young man with a question:

KJV - Matthew 19:16-26
16 ¶And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Christ answers that he should keep the commandments.
20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

I fear that many of us are like this young man. We are keeping all of the commandments, but we lack that one thing. Namely, detaching ourselves from our comforts and possessions and serving those in need. While few of us are called to sell our possessions and give them to the poor, we are expected to bless and serve those in need.

In Matthew Chapter 25, Jesus pairs two parables together, which build up each other. In each of these parables effort and preparation are required to accomplish the task at hand.

In the parable of the 10 Virgins, all are worthy and have been invited to the wedding feast. Or in other words, all 10 have been keeping the commandments to the extent that they felt qualified to meet with the bridegroom (in this case the Savior). However, only 5 calculated what may be required and prepared for additional needs - namely that they may have to wait for a while is the bridegrooms coming is delayed, which would mean that extra lamp oil would be needed. When the cry came to meet the bridegroom, each virgin needed to be self-sufficient and could not lend any of their oil to the others. Now the foolish virgins seemed to have the financial means to purchase oil, which they ran off to the merchants to get, but they were not prepared at the time.

By the time they got back and returned to the marriage, it was too late and the Lord denied even knowing them. Wow, that seems like of harsh! He concludes with the advice to "Watch" or prepare.

Tied to and directly following this parable, with no commentary between the two, is the parable of the talents. A man traveling into a far country gives stewardship over his goods to his servants - divided unequally presumably based on the faithfulness or skill level of each servant. He expects them to manage these assets profitably. Upon the masters return, those given 5 and 2 talents produced a good return, while the servant given one talent was unprofitable. The Lord, of course, was please with the profitable servants and not pleased with the other.

These two parables are tied together as Christ differentiates between those who are judged to be righteous or wicked. "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Those who are considered righteous, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the stranger, visit the sick and imprisoned, essentially care for those who are in need. The wicked are those who don't do these things.

Could it be that "goodness" in the Lords eyes is based on serving those in need, more than simply "keeping the commandments"?

King Benjamin put it this way: "I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants." - It is interesting that we give and serve "according to their wants." The implication here is that judgment is taken out of the equation. It is not my job to determine for someone else, what is a need vs a want.

In the great Sermon on the Mount, Christ teaches:
21 ¶Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father, which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (KJV Matthew 7:21-23)
It would appear that more is required than simply "confessing the name of Jesus" or considering within ourselves we are good Christian.

We are misled if we think that we can discharge our obligations to the poor and needy by shifting responsibility to the government or some other public agency. Only by voluntarily giving, out of abundance of love for our neighbor (defined as - those within the circle of your influence) can the pure love of Christ be developed. Jesus seems to give administering to the poor and needy top priority.

In ancient times in Israel, Moses taught true principles of welfare.  (Levitcus 19:9-10)

Farmers in that day, were instructed, during harvest, to leave the corners of their fields for the poor to come by later and glean - "harvest the leftovers". This program taught two basic principles namely (1) those who have - are to give, and (2) those who receive - are to work. Idleness back then as well as today is not a godly virtue.

Lest we judge those who may fit the biblical definition of being idle, we are taught that it is not our place to judge the poor and needy.
Joseph Smith taught, "Indolent and unworthy the beggar may be - but that is not your concern: It is better, to feed ten impostors than to run the risk of turning away one honest petition." We are called upon to bless the lives of those whom the Lord will put within our influence, as well as provide support to worthy organizations dedicated to helping those in need.

Once Mother Theresa was asked how she could continue day after day after day, visiting the terminally ill: feeding them, touching them, wiping their brows, giving them comfort as they lay dying. And she said, "It's not hard, because in each one I see the face of Christ in one of His more distressing disguises."

And so, to me, it would appear that the difference between the righteous and the wicked can be distilled down to our attitude of how we treat those who are poor and in need. This is certainly, (speaking only for myself,) something worth contemplation, self-evaluation and reconsidering how I conduct my life and my financial stewardship.

Is this a Hard Doctrine of Christ? It is said that the Lord only speaks hard things as they are interpreted by the wicked. If I consider offerings and service to those in need as hard or difficult, I guess that may be more of a reflection of me, than that of the doctrine itself.

"If, in the end, you have not chosen Jesus Christ, it will not matter what you have chosen." - Neal A. Maxwell

So, what does all of this have to do with healthcare and healing your body? I teach my patients (and personally believe) that all of the challenges we experience (physical as well as mental and emotional) are part of our spiritual journey. Christ suffered and atoned not only for our sins, but also for our illnesses, our broken bones, broken hearts, broken minds and broken spirits. As we truly come to Jesus, things can begin to change, heal and be renewed. As you get on this spiritual path - the one that requires serving and helping others (as you will be directed by that inner voice known as your conscience or the Light of Christ), things will begin to change for you. It requires true conversion, more than simply following a service-oriented checklist.

Tried & True herbal Remedies

  Tried and True Herbal Remedies
One of the great blessings of growing older is the experience you gain. Particularly if you have stuck to something for a long time. One of my greatest motivations has been failure. It really bugs me when something doesn't work. As a result, I search and learn and try again, and again and again. And over time, end up with things that are truly satisfying. So has it been with herbal remedies. Beginning with a remedy that works well and thenimproving upon it. I have been blessed with 30 years of working with wonderful people who have been willing to "try" what I give them. As they report back, remedies have been refined and improved. Are they perfect for every person? Not necessarily, but they are pretty darn good and wildly successful for relieving and healing most people.

As times continue to grow increasingly turbulent, many have found value in making and using their own herbal remedies. A year ago, I set a goal to have 500 gallons of herbal remedies through out the valley. Many of you have risen with this goal and now have your own herbal remedies at home. I am happy to say this goal has been exceeded. You have found that by making your own remedies by the half gallon, your cost is about 10% of what you would pay for the same (often inferior) product at the health food store.

We are offering again our Remedy Workshops. Come to my home, roll up your sleeves, turn on the blender and make for yourself Fast, Effective and potent herbal remedies. Your cost is just that of the materials and supplies. In the process, you will learn how to make these remedies on your own. You will be blessed with the assurance that you can assist those in your care for by helping issues and problems before they get out of hand. Workshop includes the herbs, jars, strainers, oils and tincturing materials - everything you need for each remedy. (Please bring a BlendTech or Vita-Mix blender if you have one).
We get you started - however, most remedies you will finish at home. (for example, with our tinctures - you need to shake them daily for 2 weeks before they are ready to strain and finish).

YOU MUST RSVP so will know we have adequate supplies. Let us know which day you will come, and which remedies you will be making.   kylesinthegarden@gmail.com or 1-801-360-0749
Space is limited and these workshops ALWAYS fill up, so if this is something you feel prompted to do, don't get left behind. Workshops held at 125 West Oak Drive, Woodland Hills, Utah. Most people can make 3 or 4 remedies during a workshop.

Listed below are the remedies you have the option to make.  Prioritize and choose what you should get started on.

The Ebola Virus

The Ebola  Virus
Pretty scary stuff we are reading about these days. What concerns many of us is that we are too often not told the truth. We have learned from sad experience that the media (news reporting agencies) and the marketers (those trying to sell products) are more motivated to manipulate our behavior than give us honesty and truth. As a result, many of us have become skeptical, suspicious and cautious of what we are being told.
And so it is with this latest outbreak of the contagious disease - Ebola.

Firstly, I tend not to trust what the American Media is telling us, especially in the face of what is being reported overseas. We are not being told about the US bioweapons lab that has been kicked out of Sierra Leon who was working with Ebola. We are not being told about the research suggesting that this strain of Ebola is different from the one that first surfaced in 1976. We are not being told of documented cases contracted without direct contact - meaning that it was and can be spread through the air. And it is not being discussed what we (as individuals and families) can do to prevent or avoid exposure. No mention in the popular media of doing ANYTHING to prevent or prepare.  [Don’t want the populace to get all riled up - just keep telling them they are comfortable and safe].

The truth is, it is difficult to know when we are being told the truth or when we are being manipulated with half truths or outright misinformation. Most people are simply too busy to bother with “all of the negative news”. Wars, financial crises, fires, immigration debates, terrorism (terrorism was just in 2001 right?) - It is all so negative. We’ve got kids to get ready to get back in school, family reunions, parties and social gatherings, skiing on the lake, hiking in the woods, training for the next race, etc. Nope, no time for negative stuff.

Now I am not suggesting that THIS IS IT. That this Ebola outbreak will spread to become the next worldwide pandemic - the last being the 1918 Spanish Flu, which killed millions (that was with a 2.5% death rate). However, real or not, I believe this is an opportunity for us to discuss and prepare for the WHAT IF.

First, understand that prevention is far better than grappling for a cure. This Ebola virus is scary and can kill up to 90% of those infected. Your number one strategy for this and any other contagious disease is referred to as social distancing. Honestly, nothing else has proven effective. This can range from wearing a protective mask and keeping your distance to walking into your house, closing the door, and not come out for 90 days (and not let anyone or anything else in). Period.

Wow, that is kind of harsh. However, if a potentially deadly contagious disease becomes widespread, you need to prepare and have the ability to exercise every option. If you do not have the personal resources to take care of yourself, you risk exposure.

As a natural health care practitioner, I hear a lot of talk (and read A LOT) about peoples natural remedies. Understand, that there is not one remedy that will cure-it-all. We must understand the nature of the enemy (the disease). In the case of Ebola - it is a virus. Medicine does not have an effect drug or treatment for viral illnesses. Generally, the goal with viral infections is to keep the person alive long enough for their own immune system to finally kill the virus.

Here is what Ebola does that is fatal: It gobbles up all Vitamin C in the body. No one actually knows the exact mechanism involved in how this is done, but that is what is observed. Scientists know that vitamin C drops to zero and all the symptoms of Ebola are consistent with a complete loss of Vitamin C.

"The very first symptoms of Ebola are exactly the same as scurvy, which is caused by inadequate Vitamin C. With the absence of Vitamin C, blood vessels become very weak and start to leak losing blood. Ebola causes massive internal bleeding, loss of blood, and shock resulting in death (up to 90% of the time). This 90% number that is often thrown around represents the most impoverished, malnourished populations.  The range is actually between 25% to 90% depending on the level of health of the population base exposed.  This is a pretty convincing argument to be well nourished and healthy. I would rather face a 75% chance of surviving than 10%.  Some researchers suggest Ebola can be stopped simply by taking enormous doses of Vitamin C until the immune system succeeds in killing off the virus."

Characteristic skin lesions or sores develop, which are actually multiple tiny areas of bleeding into the skin that surround the hair follicles. With Ebola virus and other viral hemorrhagic fevers, the disease tends to reach epidemic proportions in areas where Vitamin C deficiency and malnutrition are more prevalent, such as some of the African countries (or possibly to those of us whose diet are less than nourishing). Because of this, it would make sense to ensure that you are getting plenty of Vitamin C and are eating a diet that promotes a healthy immune system. Understand that consuming sweets and sugar will compromise a strong immune response.

When treating for an infectious disease (Ebola or just the common flu), Vitamin C is taken to bowel tolerance. Plainly put, this mean that you keep taking vitamin C until you get the runs (diarrhea). This signal from the body tells you that you have got enough. When I was in school in the early 1980’s, studying the work of Linus Pauling (winner of the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1954), I decided to put this to the test. I wanted to see how much Vitamin C I could take in a day for the flu I had contracted. 75,000mg (that’s 75grams) of Vitamin C before I reached toleration.

Understand that there have been no published trials or studies with Ebola or hemorrhagic fever and Vitamin C. It has been suggested that a disease of this nature and intensity could require as much as 500 grams (that’s 500,000 mg of Vitamin C - classically used as Ascorbic Acid) per day to reach bowel tolerance. Again, there is no cure for Ebola. The goal of any and all treatment strategies is to support the person by keeping them alive long enough for their own body’s immune system to win the raging war against the virulent infection.

The sicker a patient is, the more ascorbic acid will be tolerated by mouth before diarrhea results. This is what is meant by bowel tolerance. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is taken to support the immune system in a degree that will give the body as much vitamin C as it can use.  Depending on the individual symptoms, you can determine how many doses of vitamin C will be taken.  I generally suggest 5 grams (5,000 mg) per dose.  So if the goal for the day is 30 grams that would be given in six - 5 gram doses. A dose can be taken as 1 teaspoon of ascorbic acid crystals (or the vitamin C equivalent of 5 grams) in ½ cup of water or juice. The goal is to take enough vitamin C to be just short of bowel tolerance. Once bowel tolerance is reached, back off a bit. Continue with intensive Vitamin C doses until symptoms are completely gone. I would continue taking it in lower doses until you are completely “out of the woods“.

The following chart can give you an estimation of the number of doses to divide amount of vitamin C in.

Many in the natural healing arena suggest their favorite remedies as being the cure for practically everything. Whether it be essential oils, colloidal silver, oregano oil, herbal remedies, or whatever, I suggest having some Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid, calcium ascorbate or sodium ascorbate) on hand. I would suggest getting plenty as it can be stored for a very long time and is relatively inexpensive.  You can purchase ascorbic acid crystals (and just about everything else under the sun) from sources such as Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HMG6BCG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The rule at our house is that when anyone gets sick, EVERYONE takes the medicine (that’s herbal medicine). By following the bowel tolerance method, you can also get an indication of the body’s level of health.  You can test or dose someone to the point of bowel tolerance.  If someone can all of a sudden take 50 grams of vitamin C, then something may be up.

In the case of Ebola - there is a 2 to 21 day incubation period (most often 4-9 days). This means that a person can be infected with Ebola and actively spreading the disease BEFORE they ever have a symptom.

While medical reporters in the United States continue to assure us that infection can only occur from direct person-to-person contact there are several published studies that suggest this virus has been spread from aerosol droplets (a sneeze or cough). The Public Health Agency of Canada warns of this on their website. http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/lab-bio/res/psds-ftss/ebola-eng.php

In preventing and treating conditions with so many unknowns, I recommend using several approaches simultaneously. Take your herbal remedies to boost and strengthen the immune system. Use your silver and essential oils. But also consider Vitamin C. For more information on natural remedies to strengthen your immune system see my Blog article on Influenza. http://drkylechristensen.blogspot.com/2014/01/prepared-for-flu-during-sunday-school.html

Is Ebola going to become the next worldwide pandemic. No one really knows. However, epidemiologist assure us that something is coming – if not now, then sometime in our future. Discussions of such dire events and illnesses are not pleasant, but it is far better to be prepared than hoping we will always be immune from disaster. Being prepared as best you can “just in case” is prudent advice that perhaps can give a little peace of mind.
