LAW Diet - Longevity and Wellness Diet

The Longevity and Wellness Diet

Following the LAWs of Health
I have been an avid student of nutrition for over 40 years now. Research can be found to support just about every dietary scheme imaginable. I believe the most compelling examples of health and longevity can be found in the living examples of communities that are doing it. In recent years, valuable research has come up in what I call - The Longevity Studies. At least six villages have been identified with an extremely high ratio of centenarians (people over the age of 100). These villages or groups have extremely low rates of disease such as cancer, heart disease and dementia. The diets and lifestyle of these people have many things in common, which we are expressed here in the Laws of Health.
Laws of Health
1.    Nutrition –Eat wholesome natural foods. Plant-based, but not plant exclusive.
Don’t overeat. The dietary recommendations are detailed in the pages that follow.
Eat organic and avoid GMO.
2.    Avoid Toxins & Enhance Detoxification–It is not only what we eat, but don’t eat or expose ourselves to that is important. You can eat a super healthy diet and then sabotage your health with an unhealthy addiction (like smoking). Avoid toxic foods such as those sprayed with Glyphosate/Round-Up. Buy organic and avoid GMOs.
3.    Stay Hydrated –Drinkwater–avoid sugary and stimulating drinks (soda pop, caffeine, alcohol & fruit juices). Clean pure water really is the best beverage.
4.    Breathe –every hour or two breathe deeply – full belly breaths. This is a great stress reliever.

5.    Exercise & Move  – Walk, garden, bike, enjoy a physically active life.

6.    Get enough Sunshine –get Vitamin D, but don’t get burned. Sunshine is healing.

7.    Sleep and Restoration –Sleep 7.5 to 9 hours each night. Good sleep heals body, mind and spirit. Enjoy quiet meditative and ponderous times each day.

8.    Temperance –Strive to achieve balance. Avoid over-work, over-eating, over-sleeping, or addictions. Balance your work, relaxation, play, study and service.

9.     Connect through Community –Social connections heal. Isolation is a major risk factor for a shorter life. It’s all about loving and being loved. Relax and laugh. Serving and blessing the lives of others is the key to joy and happiness in your life.
The key to healthy aging is relationships. Taking care of your body is important, but tending to your relationships will protect both body and brain. Close relationships, more than money or fame, are what keep people happy throughout their lives.  Healthy relationships protect people from life’s discontents, help to delay mental and physical decline, and are better predictors of long and happy lives than social class, IQ, or even genes.
10. Spiritual Life – Develop your inner life and connection to God and Spirit. Be congruent with your inner life (mind and heart) as you find peace and solace.

The Longevity And Wellness Diet
This healthy L.A.W. diet is essentially what we refer to as a Vegetarian that cheats. Namely, a whole natural foods diet that is predominantly vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds with the addition of wholesomely produced eggs, dairy products and meats. Not only is the quality of our food important but also how it is prepared. The benefits of eating healthy go beyond good taste and nutrition. There is even a spiritual component to eating healthy foods. Eating healthy is simple, but in our day and age, not easy. This Whole-Food Plant Based diet is supported by the best research. It is not a plant exclusive diet as promoted by the vegetarian and vegan philosophies, but a whole food plant-based diet.
Guidelines for the Longevity and Wellness Diet
·       Eat whole, natural foods.

·       Eat only foods that will spoil, but eat them before they do.

·       Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organic, in salads and soups, or lightly steamed. Fruits and
vegetables should be eaten in the appropriate seasons. 50% of your daily diet should be raw.

·       Use whole grains and nuts that have been prepared by soaking, sprouting or sourdough leavening to
neutralize phytic acid and other anti-nutrients.

·       Breads should be whole grain organic, sourdough and made fresh. Freshly ground flour is optimal.
·       Include enzyme-enhanced lacto-fermented vegetables (sauerkraut), fruits, beverages and condiments in
your diet on a regular basis. These contain probiotics or the good bacteria and are very healthy for the
digestive tract. Everyday eat some sauerkraut, kimchi, kvass, kefir, yogurt or kombucha.

·       Prepare homemade bone broth from chicken, beef, lamb or fish and use liberally in soups and sauces. The
gelatin and minerals can heal digestive issues and are good for the skin.

·       Sprout seeds and legumes. They are packed with nutrition and extremely healthy. Eat 1 cup per day.

·       Use a variety of herbs and spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, rosemary, basil, ginger and oregano.

·       Eat naturally raised meat including fish, seafood, poultry, beef, lamb, game, organ meats and eggs.

·       Eat whole, naturally produced milk products from pasture-fed cows, preferably raw and/or fermented,
such as whole yogurt, kefir, cultured butter, whole cheeses, crème fraiche and sour cream. Dairy
consumption should be limited.

·       Use only traditional fats and oils including butter and other animal fats, extra virgin olive oil, expeller
pressed sesame, flax oil and coconut oil. These good fats are needful and very healthy.

·       Use herbal teas and coffee substitutes in moderation.

·       Use filtered water for cooking and drinking. Chlorinated tap water is unhealthy.

·       Use unrefined Celtic Sea Salt or Real Salt and a variety of herbs and spices for food interest and appetite
stimulation.

·       Make your own salad dressing using raw vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and expeller pressed flaxseed oil.
Organic cold-pressed oils are also good choices.

·       Use natural sweeteners in moderation, such as raw honey, grade A maple syrup, dehydrated cane sugar
juice and stevia powder.

·       Cook only in stainless steel, cast iron, glass or good quality enamel.

·       Use only whole food and herbal supplements. We like and use Standard Process supplements.

·       Get plenty of sleep, exercise and natural light. Less than six hours per night is associated with depression.
·       Think positive thoughts and minimize stress.

·       Practice forgiveness. Forgiveness means letting go of negative & harmful emotions.

Anti-Inflammatory Foods to emphasize

Blueberries

Raw Oats

Ginger

Dark Chocolate

Wild Salmon

Turmeric

Beets

Broccoli (cruciferous)
Black beans
EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Tomatoes
Chia seeds

Pineapple

Spinach
Whole Grains (Quinoa, Brown Rice, Millet, Amaranth)
Eggs
Garlic

An unhealthy breaking the LAW Diet
We live in a culture that actively markets food that is unhealthy. Foods that are highly processed, laden with chemical preservatives, additives, hormones, antibiotics and many artificial substances that can result in poor health and disease. Today we see degenerative diseases such as diabetes in children when a generation ago this was almost nonexistent. We are free to choose the foods we eat, but cannot choose the consequences of an unhealthy diet. Remember, it is not what you eat some of the time, but what you eat most of the time that ultimately determines your health. Eating healthy may not be as convenient, but losing your health is really inconvenient.
Below is a list of foods that have proven to cause health problems and increase the risk of degenerative diseases. Sadly, this is also a list for the typical American diet.
Dietary Dangers
·      Avoid all refined sweeteners such as sugar, dextrose, glucose and high fructose corn syrup. I’m not kidding; sugar addiction is ravaging our country and the world. Sugar makes you fat.
·
Don't eat commercially processed foods such as cookies, cakes, crackers, TV dinners, soft drinks, packaged sauce mixes, Ramen noodles, etc.
·      Avoid white flour and white flour products.

·      Avoid all hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats and oils.

·      Avoid all vegetable oils made from soy, corn, safflower, canola or cottonseed.

·      Do not use polyunsaturated oils such as flaxseed oil for cooking, sautéing or baking.

·      Avoid fried foods.

·      Do not practice strict vegetarianism (veganism); animal products provide vital nutrients not found in plant foods.

·      Avoid products containing protein powders (soy, whey). Bone broth protein powder is a healthy exception.

·      Avoid pasteurized milk; do not consume low-fat milk, skim milk, powdered milk or imitation milk products.

·      Avoid mass-produced eggs and factory-farmed meats.

·      Avoid highly processed lunchmeats and sausage containing MSG, nitrates and other additives.
·      Avoid rancid and improperly prepared seeds, nuts and grains found in granolas, quick rising breads and extruded cold breakfast cereals, as they block mineral absorption and cause intestinal distress.

·      Avoid canned, sprayed, waxed, bioengineered (GMO) or irradiated fruits and vegetables.

·      Avoid artificial food additives, especially MSG, hydrolyzed vegetable protein and aspartame, which are neurotoxins. Most soups, sauce and broth mixes and commercial condiments contain MSG, even if not so labeled.

·      Avoid caffeine-containing beverages such as coffee, tea and soft drinks.

·      Avoid aluminum-containing foods such as commercial salt, baking powder and antacids. Do not use aluminum cookware or aluminum-containing deodorants.

·      Do not drink fluoridated water.

·      Avoid synthetic vitamins and foods containing them.

·      Do not drink distilled liquors.
·
Do not use a microwave.
Wow!! Avoiding all of these foods can be a tremendous challenge that not everyone is up for, however, look at the health of our country and your family, and then decide what changes are appropriate for you.

How to Follow the L.A.W. Diet
The LAW diet has two checklists that should be followed. The Weekly Diet Checklist and the Daily Diet Checklist. As you go through your days and weeks, simply check the boxes as you go. It is easiest if you plan out your daily menus ahead of time so you can make sure that you check all the boxes in a day without forgetting something. The purpose of the checklists is to help become aware of what and how you are eating. The checklist also will assist you in making decisions on what to eat. It also prevents cheating, because it is a lot easier to cave in and get a burger or pizza if you do not have a meal planned and prepared for.
In general, the daily diet represents a minimum for each food. It is OK if you decide to throw in a little extra fruit or veggies or Omega-3s into your daily menu. You should also be eating until you are 80% full. This is perhaps the most difficult part of the diet. Most of us are accustomed to eating until we are completely full or until all the food is gone. We live in a world of abundance and should not shy away from the idea of leftovers or not finishing everything on our plate. Most leftovers can be saved and used the next day with slight adjustments to the daily menu. Learn to stop before you are completely full. Your brain takes about 20 minutes to register how full you are. Take your time while you eat. When you stop at 80%, chances are, 20 minutes later you will be at 100%.
If you get to the end of your meal and have eaten all of your allotted servings on your menu and are still hungry, there is no harm in going back for some extra food. Try to eat more of the veggies and greens before you go back for the high carb items like beans, whole grains and potatoes. Remember to stop at 80%. Check in mentally asking yourself what percentage full you are.
Another tool that is healthy and beneficial is Intermittent Fasting. This can be done two or three times per week. You simply don’t eat for 12 to 16 hours during the 24-hour day. For example: Finishing eating dinner and for the night by 7:00 pm and then have breakfast at 7:00 am. That is a 12 hour intermittent fast. For a 16 hour fast you could finish eating by 8:00pm then eat the next day at noon. During your fasting period drink water or herbal tea. Giving the body and digestive tract a rest is very healthy.
In the back of this packet there are several sample menus. These can serve as inspiration for what you can do for your daily menu plans or you can copy them exactly if you can’t think of anything. Use Dr. Christensen’s Healing in the Kitchen manual for recipes and ideas. It is generally recommended to include only one or two items from the Weekly Diet Checklist in any given daily menu.
If you find yourself cheating and buying a burger or sneaking Twinkies, take responsibility. Record your cheats on the Weekly Diet Checklist so that you can look back and see how you can do better the next week. It is OK to cheat every once in a while. What you eat most of the time is more important that what you eat some of the time. And honestly, if 80% of your meals follow this diet, you will feel the difference. That being said, there should only really be one or two cheats in any given week. Look at these cheats as a reward for eating healthy rather than something to hide and be ashamed over. Over time, the more you eat you healthy, the less you will desire the unhealthy foods you left behind. If you find yourself cheating every day or multiple meals in a day, you may want to take a step back and reevaluate your diet choices.

We hope that you find your experience with the LAW Diet enriching, wholesome and even fun as you learn to make new foods and reap the benefits of a healthy diet and a better lifestyle. The LAW Diet is designed and patterned after those groups of people who enjoy both a long Lifespan AND a long Health span. As you get into the groove of eating healthy and feeling healthy, bad habits of the past will be in your past.

Pottenger's Cats and You

Pottenger's Cats and You

Francis M Pottenger, Jr, MD conducted feeding experiments on cats between 1932 and 1942. He discovered that if cats were fed raw milk they thrived. Cats only given pasteurized milk had a decline in health as manifest in weak bones and a plethora of degenerative conditions. The cats fed a processed food diet developed these health problems as they aged. Now here's the interesting part, their offspring, when fed the pasteurized processed milk diet got sick much sooner, by middle age. And the third generation, had their decline in health in their youth. Many of the cats in this third generation were unable to reproduce or they had kittens born with many health issues. So the first generation was sick by the time they got old. Second generation by middle age and third generation unhealthy in their youth with reproductive issues.

As I look around at the health crisis in America and really the whole world, we must ponder the question - "Which generation am I?" Am I the third generation of poor nutrition? Did my parents succumb to the flashy marketing directing them to purchase and consume increasingly unhealthy convenience foods? How about grandma and grandpa? Did they eat from the garden? Or were they sucked into the consumption of refined (white) flour and sugar? Did they die relatively healthy at an old age or did they suffer the common degenerative conditions of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, obesity and kidney disease (all preventable with a healthy diet)?

Sadly, many of us are in the third generation of genetic and physical degeneration. Darn! So is all lost? Is there any hope for our generation? What Dr Pottenger discovered was that signs of deficiency could be reversed and health could be regenerated. If these third generation kittens were given the optimal diet a gradual reversal and regeneration takes place. However, if an optimal diet was withheld the decline of both physical and mental health continued.

So I ask you, how was the health of your parents and grandparents? Many of our great grandparents lived long enough ago that they were not fully exposed to refined and highly processed foods. You may not even know how healthy or unhealthy they were. So how was grandma and grandpa? Were they advocates of a healthy diet and vigorous opponents of modern foods or were they like most of the population who followed along with the dietary trends? How about mom and dad? Did they withhold sugary treats from you or did they take you to McDonalds?

Is the rise in infertility in this generation a reflection of Pottenger's discovery with cats?

Regardless of which generation you may think you are, I issue a call for all of us to reverse and regenerate the damage of previous generations. You can begin today with the determination to eat optimally. Which I believe is eating only whole natural foods. Is making this kind of change hard? ABSOLUTLEY. But when was doing the right thing, the easy thing? The food manufacturers are in it to make money by producing products that satisfy our taste buds and have a long shelf life. Fructose is added because it is not processed like glucose and does not trigger the satiety centers in the brain resulting in overconsumption of foods. Sneaky! - Drink the soda pop and your brain registers that it's not satisfied and wants more, contributing to our obesity epidemic.

Look around at how many are suffering from "Metabolic Syndrome". A fat belly is the distinguishing give away. Metabolic Syndrome is associated with insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes, being physically unfit and generally tired. I will talk more about turning this around in a future article.

But for now, I admonish you to learn from Pottenger's cats. I had a medical doctor tell me years ago that "Nutrition has nothing to do with health". Almost every week, patients share this same sentiment as it is relayed to them by practitioners in our medical community.  I strongly disagree. Many of my patients are shocked to find out that their health problems are a result of their poor diet. Diet and nutrition have everything to do with your health and the health of your children.

The Path to Optimal Health

The Path to Optimal Health
Dr Kyle Christensen

Health need not be as elusive as you may think. Last month we discussed Pottenger's cats and how due to poor health choices successive generations may become less healthy and more inclined to degenerative health problems. But Pottenger's research also demonstrated that health can be restored or regenerated - albeit with some effort. Many of us are facing a decline in health that may not be totally of our own making. But just because something is not your fault, does not mean it is not your responsibility. You may have inherited a predisposition to obesity, heart disease, arthritis, you name it - it doesn't give you free license to bemoan your fate and not do anything to improve your circumstance. I believe that because God loves each of us, He allows hardships to befall us. Trials and hardships can make us better and stronger.

Years ago as a Christian missionary I met a woman in a very affluent area. She invited us into her home proudly showing us her original artwork, her fine made European furniture and the opulence of her lifestyle. Then she sat down at her Steinway Grand Piano and played an intricate piece of music. She turned to us and defiantly proclaimed - "I have everything I could want. I don't need God". While at this moment she believed she did not need God in her life, most of us definitely can feel otherwise. Difficult times and trials cause us to ponder and evaluate our lives, often urging us to God. In this contemplation you have a choice to make - Will you become bitter or better?

The revered Christian saint, Mother Teresa in her private writings detail her crisis of faith that lasted over 40 years - roughly during the same period of time she was rescuing the diseased and dying poor in Calcutta. Although she publicly proclaimed that her heart belonged "entirely to the Heart of Jesus", she wrote to the Rev Michael Van Der Peet, a spiritual confidant, in September 1979 that "Jesus has a very special love for you. As for me, the silence and emptiness is so great that I look and do not see, listen and do not hear. The tongue moves [in prayer] but does not speak."

The lesson here is not of her quiet and personal despair, but that she never ceased serving and helping those in need. Despite her personal challenges, she made life better for those around her and as a result for herself.

So for us the choice is clear - do you choose to make life better for others and in doing so for yourself or are you willing to play the victim and settle into the introspective plight of disheartened degenerative disease.

Our goal here is always to help those we serve to get well as quickly and economically as possible. We understand that optimal health will be different for each of us. Not everyone will be able to return to full athletic function. But each of us can and I hope will improve our station in life. The results of better health will be more energy, better sleep, clearer cognition (that's brain function) and improved relationships. We truly live as Dickens wrote "in the best of times and in the worst of times". We live in a land of perpetual feasting, entertainment and luxury. It is far too easy to become self-centered and self serving. This is not the path to long term joy and happiness.

So are you interested in better health? If so, roll up your sleeves with me and let's get to work.

Always begin where you are, right here, right now. First, there must be an accurate assessment. Fortunately there are several wonderful tools to assist us.

Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA)

We have the ability to examine blood lab results in a way like never before. The old model was to look at each number as an isolated finding. If it is out of the established "normal" range, we pay attention to it. If it lies within the widespread range of normal, it gets skipped over. You must understand what dictates normal. Medically speaking, normal means no drug prescription is necessary. Outside of normal - too high or too low - means the prescription pad is pulled out and off to the pharmacist you go.
What Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis does is examine patterns and trends of health, not analyzing normal values, but optimal values.

Health history demonstrates that you don't suddenly develop heart disease, diabetes or an autoimmune disease, but you often slowly (over years) degenerate into the condition until finally you fall outside of "normal" and are given a diagnosis and a prescription. You must also understand the goal of most drugs is to manage your disease, not to return you to health.

FBCA not only can give us the percentage of the probability of dysfunction as it relates to various health conditions, but also gives us direction on how to return to optimal health. It is much easier to turn a health condition around sooner rather than later. But even if you are in the decline of degenerative disease, you can definitely improve.

Heart Sound Recording
There is an old saying; "The Heart eats First". This means that the nutrition that we take into our body will feed or help the heart first. Or in other words, if there is a nutritional deficiency, then it will show up in the heart function before other parts of the body. By listening and recording the sounds (the vibrations) of the heart into a graph, we can determine nutritional deficiencies. The exciting part of this test is that when nutritional recommendations are followed, we see significant improvements with a follow up Heart Sound.

Observational Analysis

Many are aware of changes in fingernails, tongue, hair and skin. White spots on the nails, cracks in the tongue or specific wrinkles are all indicators of nutritional deficiencies. Those skilled in observational analysis can quickly determine issues that most are not aware of.

Stress Assessment

One of the keys to health is how well you handle stress and distress. We live in a highly stressful culture that often leads to adrenal fatigue that can be followed for thyroid and hormonal problems. By simply rating yourself in response to various questions, you can rate your stress levels.

Through the performance of simple tests, we can determine what may be necessary to get you on the path to optimal health.

By studying the lives of those who have lived long, healthy and happy lives we can set forth a plan that can be followed. This path can be summarized in the Laws of Health.

Laws of Health
  1. Nutrition - Eat wholesome natural foods. Plant-based, but not plant exclusive. Don't overeat.
  2. Avoid Toxins & Enhance Detoxification - It is not only what we eat, but what we don't eat or expose ourselves to that is important. You can eat a super healthy diet and then sabotage your health with an unhealthy addiction (like smoking or sugar).
  3. Stay Hydrated - Drink water - avoid sugary and stimulating drinks (soda pop, caffeine, alcohol & fruit juices). Clean pure water really is the best beverage.
  4. Breathe - every hour or two breathe deeply - full belly breaths. This is a great stress reliever.
  5. Exercise & Movement - Walk, garden, bike, enjoy a physically active life.
  6. Get enough Sunshine -  Vitamin D created by sunshine exposure is vital, just avoid getting burned. Sunshine is healing. Most Vitamin D supplements don't work so get out in the sun.
  7. Sleep and Restoration - Sleep 7.5 to 9 hours each night. Good sleep heals body, mind and spirit. Enjoy quiet, meditative and ponderous times each day.
  8. Temperance - Strive to achieve balance. Avoid over-work, over-eating, over-sleeping, addictions. Balance your work, relaxation, play, study and service.
  9. Connect through Community
    - Social connections heal. Isolation is a major risk factor for a shorter life. It's all about loving and being loved. Relax and laugh. Serving and blessing the lives of others is the key to joy and happiness in your life. Warning: Social connection is direct personal interaction. Not Social Media. Science has demonstrated that too much social media is associated with depression.
  10. Spiritual Life - Develop your inner life and connection to God, Spirit and others. Be congruent with your inner life (be of one heart and mind) as you find peace and solace.
We invite you to get on the Path to Optimal Health.
Begin with an assessment. If you are local to us (Payson, UT) schedule a time to come in. If not, contact us for what blood work test would be best for you. We will soon have up our webinar on Observational Analysis so that you can check yourself and others for signs of nutritional deficiency. We can mail or email the stress test.

Then once we have gathered the information, a personalized program can be designed for you. It is important that you experience observable results both in your physical appearance as well as how you feel. If you don't get results, it is because something is being missed or you are not doing your part. Our goal really is to help you achieve your optimal health as quickly and economically as possible.

When it comes to taking supplements, I have found that when you take a few key whole food supplements, you do far better than taking handfuls of supplements. Also Diet Determines Dosage. This means that if you are willing to eat a healthy diet, you will need even fewer supplements. We do understand that not everyone is willing to eat the foods that contain the highest nutritional content. (Yes, Liver is the highest source of many vitamins). Understand this - We take a supplement, so that we don't have to take supplements. A proper whole food supplement (such as those grown and produced by Standard Process) contain the nutritional active ingredients as well as the co-factors, synergists and buffers. Nearly all other vitamin supplements on the market are synthetically made by the pharmaceutical (drug) companies and sold to the vitamin manufacturers to be packaged and sold to the consumer. Take a look at the label of your supplements - if you see chemical names (ascorbic acid, tocopherols, thiamin, niacin, beta carotene, etc.) you can be certain these are synthetic and may stimulate your body for a short time, but will not heal and nourish you for the long haul.

Herbs are concentrated whole foods. That is why we love herbal supplements. But as with any whole food supplement, it must come from a quality source.

So, are you ready to get on the path to optimal health? Tired of crazy diets that promise quick results? Sadly, quick results often lead to long-term disaster. Give us a call and let us help you.

Blessings,

Normal is not Optimal - Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis

Normal is not Optimal

Here's a far too typical scenario. Someone is not feeling well. They get referred for a blood test to try to figure out what is wrong. After the blood test, they call the doctor or hospital for the results and are told "When we get the results, we will give you a call if something is wrong. If you don't hear from us, that means your lab tests were fine." Seriously? Or how about this one: you are told that "the lab test was a little high, we'll just keep an eye on it." Seriously? Isn't that just code language that the numbers are not bad enough to prescribe a drug, but if you continue on your course of ill health, soon enough we can write you a prescription. Nearly all of us want to avoid taking drugs. Most people are not excited when they get to go to the pharmacy to get a drug.

Blood Chemistry really is a wonderful tool. But all too often lab results are looked at individually and within a very broad range of what may be considered normal. Understand that normal, medically speaking, means you are not in the absolute disease or crisis range. Normal does not mean healthy. Ideally, blood chemistry should be analyzed and looked at for optimal ranges rather than only a state of severe disease. When all of the lab result numbers are correlated with all of the other numbers, a much different picture can be revealed.

A Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA) and report takes your lab data and analyzes it to help you understand what's going on inside your body. Like a fingerprint, people are individuals with unique biochemical characteristics. Even people with the same diagnosis or condition can have different contributing imbalances. That's why for optimal results, health decisions should incorporate understandable information about your biochemistry that you can take action on, and will lead you to definite improvement and results.  The bottom line of any test, analysis and treatment must be RESULTS. Blood chemistry results, for optimal benefit must be analyzed, searching for pathways to optimal health rather than simply waiting for disease with pharmaceutical management.

We are truly excited to have discovered and  begun utilizing Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis - FBCA developed by Dr. Dicken Weatherby.

Are you interested in learning what is really going on with your health? Lab work and Blood Chemistry is great, but only if it can be used to restore you to better health.  When lab data can give you accurate diagnoses that not only shows you what is wrong, but also where your health is trending, you are in a position to do something about it.

One of the great things about FBCA is our ability to correlate with Standard Process supplements.  I have been recommending Standard Process for over 30 years.  Standard Process is unique because of their use of taking whole foods to make their supplements. You get the active ingredients plus all of the co-factors, synergists, buffers, etc. Everything God, and nature, designed for the complete utilization of what you need. Nearly all vitamin supplements on the market today are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. Ingredients are purchased by supplement manufacturers and they combine and package them. And sadly, a recent study showed that many of these vitamin supplements are tainted or contaminated with pharmaceuticals or drugs. What?!!! That is truly worrisome.

Standard Process is one of the very few companies who truly grow and manufacture their own supplements.  I, and thousands of other practitioners, have found great results using Standard Process.

To run your existing blood chemistry results normally runs $150.  For the month of December the cost for the Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis, complete with a Functional Health Report and Nutritional recommendations, will be only $75.  Share with us your Blood Chemistry results.  Let us run the numbers and receive a detailed analysis and report (50 - 80 pages in length) with clear and significant recommendation during your FBCA consultation.

If you have been frustrated with the lack of clear direction in improving your health, this can be your answer; the difference between bumping along the downward spiral of declining health and understanding the steps to regaining your health and vitality.

Prayer as a Healing Path

Prayer as a Healing Path
I don't know about you, but for me and many others, prayer is tricky. How do I exert consistent prayer that actually reaches farther than my bedroom ceiling? Especially when I'm exhausted, discouraged, depressed or just not feeling 'in-tune'.
I believe that none of us have signed up for the easy life. Life is hard - by design. We are designed to make mistakes. It is through making mistakes, call it sin if you like, but by making mistakes we can learn, grow and progress. I remember years ago visiting with someone who was very wealthy. She shared with us some of her artwork, her Steinway Grand piano and her lavishly decorated home and then declared "I have everything I want. I have no need for God". Thank God, my life is such that I need God. Like you, I've had challenges, set backs, disappointments and heartbreaks. I believe part of Gods brilliant plan is that we are put into situations that are beyond our capability to get out of by our own wits and determination.
Isn't it interesting how others perceive us as opposed to how we see ourselves? A recent survey of "the popular kids" revealed that they each felt like they didn't fit in. I find that most of us feel the same. We feel like outsiders to a greater or lesser degree. Our goal and purpose with prayer is not only to commune with God but to experience a closeness, even a sense of belonging and becoming part of God, his daughters and sons.
Here are a couple of effective strategies I have discovered on my journey in my relationship with God.
I often teach my patients what I refer to as the 3-word prayer. For me this is one of the most basic of contacts with deity. In times of distress, weakness and angst, I simply cry out from my heart - GOD HELP ME! When this brief prayer is expressed, I imagine a fine filament of light connecting from Gods heart to mine. I repeat it again - God help me. And another strand of light connects us. Some days this prayer erupts from my soul 20, even 30 times. This prayer helps. As time passes your connection with God will strengthen. Give it a try.

Another type of prayer that can be profoundly beneficial is the written prayer. In the culture I grew up in, prayer is expected to be spontaneous. If I were asked to offer a prayer in church and pulled out some notes before I began it would create a stir or a least some disapproving conversation. In learning to pray, I was taught to follow a certain pattern and generally wing it or to ultimately be so in tune with the spirit that the words would be given to me as they flowed effortlessly from my mouth. Sorry, but I'm not often 'in tune' enough or eloquent as I'd like to be. Of course, I need to express myself. Pour out my heart, definitely. But most often, my words are not so carefully expressed that they adequately convey the intent of my heart. Admittedly most of my praying is spontaneous, but there are times I want a bit more. Have you ever revisited a conversation or prayer and wished you had said something differently or better?
I had an experience years ago journaling. I decided to write my prayer to God. By writing, the words came much slower than speaking. And as a result, for me, they seemed to flow less hurried and were more reflective and guided by the spirit. As this prayer flowed on, I felt inspired to say and express myself much better than I had previously. You may want to consider a prayer journal. An inexpensive lined and bound school notebook for under a dollar. Make an effort to write by hand rather than type on a computer. There is something about forming each word by hand that lends itself to a better connection to God and spirit than by typing. At least that is what I have experienced.
Finally, the Recited Prayer. While many Christians rely on memorized or recited prayers (ie. The Lords Prayer), others classify recited prayers as vain repetition (with negative connotation). Many churches have some set prayers that are recited verbatim and others not so much. I have discovered that a carefully worded prayer that is written down and then recited from memory or read can guide me through the process. To be honest when I have a specific desire or challenge I am working through, I tend to fade in my consistent prayer efforts after a few days. If I have a prayer that truly expresses my desires, I have found great benefit in using the same prayer repeatedly. Of course, in my personal and intimate prayer sessions, I am free to wander wherever the spirit my guide me. But repeating a prayer day in and day out for many days will draws out of my soul a deeper and much more profound experience. It can become a much more meditative and meaningful experience. It is like memorizing a favorite piece on the piano. By playing the same piece again and again, I can uncover the secrets hidden within and between the notes. In fact, it is not until I have examined every nuance, phrase and intonation of the piece, that I discover the richness of it. I believe the great and inspired music can touch our soul with Gods. This is my listening repeatedly to a masterful piece of music can be so enriching. So too, prayer that is meticulously pondered and expressed can reach heights and depths unavailable to the casual practitioner.
I have also discovered that when I read a prayer that may have been scripted by someone else, it can express and convey words and meanings that are put better than me. It is like when someone says something and it just resonates with me and I find myself thinking, "yeah, me too - that's how I feel". Better yet, I can copy a prayer, tweak it to my own needs and desires and rewrite it making it mine. The process definitely evolves and rewrites are rewritten time and again. Then focus can shift and the process can begin anew.
I have really enjoyed the writings of John Eldredge. He is a Christian writer that has written extensively on many topics. On his webpage (www.ransomedheart.com) , he offers many prayers that can be used verbatim or as a template. I invite you to click on this link and explore some of these prayers.
People have been offering prayers since time began. We yearn to belong. We ache for connection. Yet we struggle. Prayer is the path. But a casual or half-hearted approach will produce only lack luster results. If you are in need of healing dedicate a prayer specific to that purpose. If you haven't yet offered a specific prayer to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior, repeat this prayer - try it daily for a few weeks. If you seek freedom from addiction or unwanted behaviors, craft a specific prayer for that. If all you can muster as this point is the 3-word prayer - God Help Me! Then begin there. I promise you will become a better man, a better woman. As our intent to draw closer to your God is true, God will not dis you or reject you because you aren't doing it right. But as you pray, vocally or silently, you will receive strength, hope, comfort and knowledge from the very eternal father of your soul.
Blessings,
